Next
gig: 7 tonight, July 18, at Allied Arts Theatre, 1416 Cornwall Ave.
Age: 41
What she plays: Mostly her own compositions, "with the
occasional juicy cover thrown in."
Motivation: "Shyness was an obstacle. The driving force behind my
starting to perform music publicly was overcoming that challenge."
Childhood memories of Lake Whatcom: "Playing in huge piles of
leaves in the fall, the smell of the lilacs along the driveway, summer
days spent perfecting my flips off the dock, always hollering up to the
house to mom to 'watch this one!' I guess the dock was my first stage of
sorts."
Debut: A little pub in Ireland in 1997. "I guess I had to get
far away from home."
Music faves: "I LOVE to dance around the house to Macy Gray! My
all-time favorite local band is Redux/Ducks."
Hidden talents: "My pastels have been compared to children's
book illustrations, so I guess they come from a young place in my old
soul."
Favorite flicks: "'Harold and Maude,' which I first saw in the
'70s at the Picture Show Theater in Fairhaven. I love the line where Maude
says, 'Everyone should be able to make some kind of music, it's the cosmic
dance.'"
